NearMe
Privacy Policy
Privacy Policy
NearMe is a safety and mutual-help app. This policy explains what data we use and why.
What we collect
- Account data you enter, such as your name and selected role.
- Location data when the app is used, so we can show nearby incidents, calculate distances, and send SOS alerts to nearby users.
- Device identifiers and push tokens, so the service can register your device and deliver push notifications.
- Emergency contacts and SMS template text if you enable the family/group SMS feature.
- Incident content, such as SOS events, comments, and reactions, so the service can operate correctly.
Why we use it
- To show incidents near you and update the map.
- To send SOS notifications and push alerts.
- To send SMS messages from your phone only when you explicitly enable the paid family/group feature.
- To keep your profile and incident history working.
- To prevent abuse and duplicate notifications.
Permissions
- Location is requested explicitly because the app needs it to find nearby incidents and calculate the working radius.
- Notifications are requested explicitly because the app uses push alerts for active incidents.
- SMS is requested explicitly only for the family/group plans, and messages are sent from the user's device and SIM.
Sharing
- We do not sell personal data.
- We share only what is necessary with our backend and Firebase to run authentication, mapping, and push notifications.
- Nearby incident data may be visible to users who are inside the active alert radius.
Retention and deletion
- Data is kept while your account is active or while it is required to provide the service.
- You can delete your profile from the app when available.
- Local device data can also be cleared by uninstalling the app or clearing app storage.
Background location
NearMe does not use background location tracking at the moment. If a future version adds it,
we will ask for separate consent and disclose the use of ACCESS_BACKGROUND_LOCATION clearly.
Contact
For privacy and deletion requests, use the profile section inside the app and the profile deletion flow.
